Media Advisory - Public to join Lieutenant Governor for New Year's Day tradition

December 29, 2016

On Sunday, January 1, 2017, Lieutenant Governor Lois Mitchell and His Honour Doug Mitchell will be hosting the annual New Year’s Day Levee at Government House in Edmonton.

NOTE TO ASSIGNMENT EDITORS – All media are welcome to attend the levee. Doors will be open to the public from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on January 1. An availability with the Lieutenant Governor will be held at approximately 2:15 p.m. Requests for one-on-one interviews outside that time may be accommodated, as the Lieutenant Governor’s hosting duties allow. Government House is located at 12845 – 102 Avenue, Edmonton (next to the now-closed Royal Alberta Museum).

The levee is an open house-style event open to the general public. To kick off Canada's 150th birthday year, all levee guests will receive Canada 150 pins and have the opportunity to take a Canada 150 photo with family and friends. Younger visitors can take away a Canada 150 activity kit. Guests will also be invited to write a postcard of thanks and encouragement to Canadian Forces members serving overseas.
