New Year's levee tradition takes one year hiatus

December 4, 2014

The Lieutenant Governor’s annual New Year’s Day levee has been cancelled this year while His Honour, Col. (Ret’d) the Hon. Donald S. Ethell recovers from spinal surgery.

The surgery was successful and the Lieutenant Governor is doing well, however it will be some weeks of recovery before His Honour resumes his public schedule.

“Her Honour and I are disappointed that we have to miss welcoming everyone to Government House as the levee has become one of our favourite traditions of the office. We hope that everyone understands and we wish all of our fellow Albertans a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. ”

-Lieutenant Governor Donald S. Ethell

The office plans to resume the levee tradition at Government House in Edmonton for New Year’s Day 2016.
